Employment Screening Processes (WA Government Agency)

Scope

To produce a criminal record screening process that helps protect the agency, it's clients and the community by ensuring that they do not employ people whose criminal record indicates that they may pose a risk.


Challenges

The challenges for the project were:

  • Analysis the existing "as is" business process and its limitations.
  • Propose options to allow the regulation to be implemented.
  • Understand the appropriate Acts, Regulation and Legislation that is applicable.

Diversus Difference

Diversus value was extremely appreciated as several issues was identified that require immediate action. A report was given to the agency for action and further analysis, this included:

  • Guidance on the implementation of the requirements for the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004.
  • Identification of a large number of practices were found that either breached the current policy and procedures or placed the agency at risk of employing unsuitable applicants.
  • Refinement of the terminology for consistency and intention.
  • Improvements in the policy such as including the scope of threats in the policy statement.
