SharePoint Workflow

What is SharePoint workflow?

Workflow is standard functionality within SharePoint that allows you to control almost any aspect of a SharePoint list item, including the life cycle of that item. Ultimately, a workflow is a natural way to organize and run a series of actions that correspond to a work process.

Can it really be even better?

For more diverse workflow capabilities within SharePoint, Diversus offers the Skelta SharePoint Accelerator that can provide features not otherwise found out of the box:

SharePoint Workflow

  • Ability to graphically design and configure workflows without specialist tools, also easing deployment.
  • Multiple communication channels (e.g. forms, email, SMS, IM).
  • Enabled for human workflow steps.
  • Process versioning.
  • Sophisticated reporting capabilities based on workflows, including business activity monitoring.

The workflow engine for the Skelta SharePoint Accelerator is Skelta BPM.NET which is built on top of the same underlying workflow engine that SharePoint can utilise - Windows Workflow Foundation.

Why use workflows with SharePoint?

You may choose to use SharePoint for document management or perhaps storage of a list of items such as issues for a project. You may have needs such as document review, approvals or archiving that need to be attended to and SharePoint workflow can facilitate this for you. Or when a new issue is added to the issue an email notification must be sent - SharePoint workflow can do this for you. Ultimately, SharePoint workflow provides the ability to automate your business processes and allows teams and individuals to concentrate on the work rather than the workflow.
