8 March is International Women's Day 2022 (IWD) – a day in which we acknowledge the women whose social, economic, cultural and political achievements make it a better world for us all as they break the bias.

At Diversus, we celebrate these women, and those in our organisation, who are making their mark. Join us as we bring to you our spotlight series in lead up to IWD, recognising our women in IT, for what they do every day.

We look forward to sharing their stories with you.

Our first spotlight is on our Operations Manager, Mel Stein MBA MAICD AFAIM. After searching for a role in which she could provide value from her experience and apply the theory and concepts of her MBA, especially around strategies, Mel started with Diversus in 2019.

“Diversus not only offered me this opportunity, but they gave me extensive autonomy to do so. The Directors were completely open to fresh thinking and viewpoints, along with experimenting with different scenarios,” Mel said.

Mel’s operations’ remit includes management of the People & Culture portfolio which includes developing strategies, objectives, and focus areas as well as leading special projects, to drive the employee experience at Diversus. One such project included the joint Australian Government and KPMG Australia Career Revive Program.

“The Career Revive returner program is about developing a talent strategy for mid-career professionals who are ready to return to work and to support them in those endeavours," she said.

It focuses on breaking down barriers and challenges that normally makes returning to work difficult for them. Strategies, especially talent strategies require regular attention to make sure they’re fit for purpose and deliver the intended outcomes,"

“The Career Revive project is mid-way, but already we can see how it will set the foundation for many other strategic initiatives, and that’s exciting; professionally and personally to see that unfold.”

For Mel, the most rewarding part about being at Diversus is the opportunity to work in a diverse environment.

“Diversus by name and diverse by nature! We all bring different skill sets and perspectives to the workplace which is the goal," she said.

"With this year’s theme being #BreakTheBias we should take time to reflect and imagine a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, where differences are valued and celebrated,"

I believe it is extremely important to support women in industries such as ours so we can all benefit from the value of diversity,"

“For Diversus, whilst we’re proud of our gender diversity in what is a traditionally male dominated industry, we’ll continue to assess our diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies to ensure they provide what’s needed to support women and make them a part of an incredible industry.”
